porcelain veneers & ceramic crowns
cosmetic dentistry procedures
Veneers are very thin porcelain covers for the front of ones teeth or tooth. It might be compared to the application of a false fingernail. There are many ways for veneers to improve ones cosmetic appearance: Veneers can be used to hide gaps between the teeth. They can make teeth appear straighter than they actually are. They can smooth the edges of chipped teeth and provide an even color and hide or replace older fillings. Veneers take only two appointments to fabricate with about three weeks in between. Dr. Silberman uses a special laboratory in California nationally known to cater to movie stars. This laboratory has also been featured on the television makeover shows.
Crowns (also know as caps) cover one's tooth on every side and are an additional cosmetic option. There are a variety of types of crowns. Typically crowns for upper or lower front teeth are now made exclusively of porcelain. Because no metal is used these crowns transmit light in a life-like way and provide excellent long lasting cosmetic results. For teeth that require more strength and yet be tooth colored, porcelain is overlaid onto a precious metal alloy. (One sees hardly any metal if at all) Finally for back teeth where appearance is not too important and strength is required crowns can be made entirely of either a white gold or yellow gold allow to alloy.
